get a free i-name from linksafe

September 19, 2006 by @linksafe

We’re giving away @freeid community i-names. Just contact us using our contact page and tell us the name you want. If it’s available, you’ll get the i-name @freeid*the.name.you.want. (If it’s not available we’ll let you know and you can choose a different one.)

“Real soon now” we’ll let you register them yourselves. In the meantime here’s a way to play for free.

Cheers!

other i-name enabled sites

September 15, 2006 by @linksafe

In addition to ClaimID (just added) there are a few other OpenID sites where our i-names worked when we tried ‘em recently. Here’s the ones we remember off the top of our heads.

  • 1id – sent contact message to 1id i-name user
  • 2idi – sent contact message to 2idi i-name user
  • SXORE – reputation site started by Sxip

If you know of any others, please let us know. Also let us know if there’s an OpenID site where you want to use your i-name but can’t and we’ll work with them to smooth things out.

using your i-name at claimid.com

September 15, 2006 by @linksafe

Yesterday a LinkSafe customer tried to use his i-name in an OpenID login box at ClaimID. Unfortunately it didn’t work. :-(

But the story has a happy ending.

We sent a bug report to ClaimID and less than 24 hours later you can now use your i-name at ClaimID!

Thanks to the folks at ClaimID for being so responsive. Thanks also to JanRain.com for the great libraries that make such updates quick and easy.

With this post we’re starting a new blog category: +iname.enabled and we’re making the category an endpoint @linksafe/+iname.enabled.

We’ll post a blog entry for ANY OpenID enabled site or service that accepts i-names. So if you have one or know of one, please let us know.

make sure to check out the inamers blog

September 13, 2006 by @linksafe

the inamers blog carries posts of general interest to users of all i-names. recently there were posts about two Firefox plugins:

  • FoXRI – let’s you enter i-names (XRIs) directly into the Firefox address bar
  • ph-off – modifies Firefox to help prevent phishing attacks.

slashdot wednesday

September 13, 2006 by @linksafe

The $5 promotion described at iwantmynamenow.com got slashdotted today and as a result the LinkSafe site has been taking a beating.

If you are having trouble registering at LinkSafe we want you to know that there are other i-brokers that can help you get the name you want for $5. While we’d love to have your business, what we really want is for you to be happy with your i-name experience – we’d rather you go somewhere else than be unhappy with us.

So if LinkSafe isn’t working for you then please try one of the other i-brokers.

Sincerely,

@linksafe

LinkSafe is….

  • an i-broker
  • a place to register i-names and manage your online identity
  • contactable at @linksafe (that’s our i-name and defaults to our contact page)
  • offering a $5 promotional price for =names until 7pm PST on 9/13/2006

That’s it for now….

Oh. The i-name for this blog is @linksafe/+blog
